NewCold has completed the installation of solar panels at its Global Innovation and Support Center (GISC) in Breda, the Netherlands, an investment that marks a significant step forward in its long-term sustainability strategy.
The installation now generates 0.3 megawatts (MW) of clean solar energy, enough to power approximately 100 homes, and supports the center’s day-to-day needs.
“Sustainability and innovation go hand in hand at NewCold,” said Matthew Staley, NewCold Executive Vice President of Technology & Innovation. “This project reflects our focus on building smarter, more efficient systems from the ground up. It’s about reducing our environmental footprint while futureproofing how we operate.”
From lighting and server systems to electric vehicle charging and kitchen operations, the solar array now powers nearly all essential functions at the recently unveiled GISC. This development not only reduces NewCold’s reliance on external energy sources but reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and operational resilience.
For NewCold, sustainability is not just a regulatory or reputational consideration, it’s a core business imperative. The company has already made progress across its global operations, including investment in energy-efficient warehouse technologies, a growing fleet of alternative fuel vehicles, and reduced-waste initiatives across its transport and logistics functions.
“We’re not only building energy-smart infrastructure; we’re redefining what it means to operate responsibly in today’s logistics landscape,” Staley added. “These efforts deliver meaningful value to our customers while helping us do our part in shaping a more sustainable food supply chain.”
The solar initiative at the Breda facility is part of a growing pipeline of sustainability projects underway at NewCold. By integrating innovative solutions at its sites around the world, the company aims to reduce emissions, increase energy independence, and contribute to a net-zero future.
