McDonough, Henry County, GA – The construction of NewCold’s state-of-the-art $333 million automated warehouse facility in Georgia marked a milestone with a top-off ceremony on Wednesday 19 July.
Founded in the Netherlands and with a North American base in Chicago, NewCold is a leader in highly automated temperature-controlled logistics, with 15 sites on three continents. The fast-growing company is dedicated to developing world-class systems that are energy efficient and maximize productivity.
“This is an important point in NewCold’s North American journey, entering one of the nation’s most strategic locations for food distribution in the South-East. Aside from the high-quality jobs created and the economic impact of this investment, NewCold brings innovative logistics solutions to an industry that has seen challenges dealing with inefficient processes and resource constraints,” said NewCold’s Jonas Swarttouw, Executive Vice President Commercial and Chairman of North America.
To realize the vision of building one of the world’s most advanced automated warehouses, NewCold turned to the leading engineering, design, and construction firm Gray.
“For more than a decade, NewCold has been advancing the boundaries of what’s possible in the warehousing space,” says Brett Goode, Gray’s Executive Vice President, Food & Beverage Market. “Gray is excited to partner on this new project that will help move the industry and region forward.”
Hailed as the single-largest investment by a business in Henry County when announced in 2022, NewCold’s facility in Midland Industrial Park in McDonough will create 170 jobs.
“When NewCold made the decision to locate in Henry County, we were excited to add them to our business community. This project represents the largest foreign direct investment in our community’s history,” said F. J. “Josh” Fenn, Executive Director, Henry County Development Authority.
“This event is an exciting stage in the development, and we are looking forward to NewCold’s grand opening soon of this state-of-the-art facility which will bring positions in supply chain management, mechatronics, and robotics to our community,” Fenn added.
Swarttouw acknowledged the importance of support from the state of Georgia and Henry County officials. “This would not be possible without the business-friendly ethos displayed by state and local officials. We thank them for their guidance and support,” he said.
NewCold is partnering with some of the largest food companies in the world to drive sustainable innovations in the industry.
“Our new facility helps to strengthen resilience in the food supply chain in America while maintaining the highest food safety standards. Our automated warehouse solution enables NewCold to deliver high levels of customer service, helping food producers reach their customers more efficiently,” Swarttouw added.
Georgia is a major food logistics hub. Companies located in Georgia have access to 80% of U.S. markets in less than two days of driving or two hours by plane.
