NewCold has begun development on a state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Ferentino, Italy. Set to be operational by 2026, this €70 million investment underscores NewCold’s commitment to supporting the regional economy, enhancing food supply chain resiliency and creating high-quality jobs.
The new facility is being developed in partnership with Froneri Italy, a key player in the frozen food industry. A dedicated tunnel will seamlessly connect NewCold’s facility to Froneri’s production plant, ensuring optimal efficiency in logistics and supply chain operations.
A landmark event for economic growth
The project was officially presented at a special event hosted by Mayor Piergianni Fiorletta, who was joined by local council members and city officials. “I fully support the NewCold project, an innovative and sustainable investment that will bring great value to our territory. In addition to creating new jobs, it represents a strategic opportunity to attract further investments and develop a more modern and green economy. I am excited to see this initiative take shape and assure the full support of the local administration, “says Mayor Piergianni.
Representing NewCold were Jonas Swarttouw, Managing Director Europe, Luca Quaresima, Country Manager Italy, Jon Miles, Vice President Operations Europe, Remko Wirken, Europe Finance Director, and Emanuele Angelini, Ferentino Site Manager.
During the event, Jonas Swarttouw emphasized NewCold’s strategic decision to invest in Southern Italy, citing the region’s important role in Italian food production and their need for state of the art logistics solutions to effectively supply their customers in Italy and abroad.
“Our expansion into Ferentino is a key milestone in strengthening NewCold’s presence in Italy, particularly in the central and southern regions. This investment not only enhances our ability to serve customers nationwide with world-class cold chain solutions but also reinforces our commitment to driving economic growth and innovation in the region. By adding this important location to our Italian network, we are building a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable supply chain for the future,” Jonas Swarttouw, Managing Director Europe, NewCold.
Luca Quaresima shared insights into the project’s five-year journey, which began with discussions with Francesco De Angelis, former President of the Asi Industrial Consortium, who was also in attendance to show his continued support.
Strong industry & institutional support
The event was attended by key industry and institutional leaders, including Giueseppe Farina, Froneri Italia Director of Operations, and Guida Amerigo, Froneri Italia Head of Engineering, alongside Guido D’Amico and Giuseppe Virgili from Confimprese Italia. Discussions centered on the project’s economic benefits, job creation, sustainability initiatives, and local business involvement in construction and operations. Confimprese Italia also spoke, highlighting their pride in bringing such an advanced logistics hub to Italy.
Celebrating a commitment to innovation and collaboration
To mark the occasion, Mayor Fiorletta presented commemorative plaques to NewCold and Froneri, received by Jonas Swarttouw, Luca Quaresima, and Giuseppe Farina.

We aim to create long-term value, generate new jobs, and contribute to the region’s economic and industrial progress. Together, we are building a future of excellence in cold chain logistics,” said Luca Quaresima.
