NewCold grows footprint in Germany with Rheine expansion

Rheine, Germany – NewCold, the fast-growing advanced food logistics company, is investing Euro 60 million in expanding its automated warehouse facility in Rheine, Germany.

“This expansion will boost our ability to serve our existing and new customers in the German market,” said Frank Huckschlag, NewCold’s Chief Operating Officer. “We see growing demand for 24/7 high-level service, efficiency, and scale that allows customers to benefit from consolidation. Our facility in Rheine is expanding to meet that demand.”

Construction on the expansion began in March 2023 and will include a new high bay, low bay, and office building totaling 8,000 square meters. The expansion will add 30,000 pallet positions, increasing NewCold’s total capacity in Germany to over 100,000 pallet spaces. The project also includes refurbishment of existing offices, an extension of the shipping department, and a new driver processing facility.

The facility will utilize the latest advancements in sustainability and food safety including on-site solar power generation that will provide renewable energy. State-of-the-art cooling and insulation technology will enable deep cold storage, employing the highest standards of hygiene and temperature integrity. The warehouse in Rheine will utilize a fully automated logistics system allowing for 24/7 operations.

The expansion of the facility is expected to create approximately 120 jobs during the construction phase and will result in additional full-time employment opportunities when operational.

NewCold’s Rheine facility is currently one of the largest cold storage locations in Germany. This allows for greater efficiency than providers with less storage capacity. We collaborate with our key partners to deliver the most efficient logistics solutions by increasing the drop size, consolidating the destinations of NewCold’s customers, and addressing individual customer needs.

The Rheine expansion is expected to be complete and operational in spring 2024.
