NewCold offers exciting and fulfilling career opportunities around the world.
NewCold achieved a construction milestone at its first advanced automated warehouse in Canada, reaching one-third of the total height of the high bay.
The event was marked by the presence of representatives from Fisher Construction Group and NewCold, who gathered onsite to commemorate this pivotal moment in the project. This state-of-the-art facility will stand at 40 meters (131 feet) upon completion and is set to revolutionize cold storage and logistics in Alberta, ensuring top-notch food safety and providing robust support for local food processors.
“This milestone is a significant moment in NewCold’s global growth story,” said Jonas Swarttouw, NewCold Executive Vice President Commercial and Chairman North America. “Our Coaldale facility will introduce innovative end-to-end solutions in Canada’s cold chain industry and support the fast-growing food processors in South Alberta to better ship goods to domestic and export markets.”
The collaboration among Alberta’s government agencies was crucial in bringing the investment to fruition. The Government of Alberta contributed $2.1 million through an Innovation and Growth Fund grant for NewCold’s expansion, while the Town of Coaldale expedited operations and continues to provide strategic development support.
“This project has only been possible due to partnerships. Partnerships within NewCold, partnerships with our suppliers, and partnerships with Team Alberta-Coaldale,” said Swarttouw. “The pro-business environment has worked hand-in-hand with us to identify permitting and infrastructure constraints, and actively work with us to take them away.”
The new Coaldale facility will not only help support the food chain of Southern Alberta but will create quality, high-tech jobs for Canadians. Once operational it will employ 50-100 team members, creating the jobs of the future for decades to come.
“We are committed to becoming a long-term community member, both in Alberta and Coaldale. We will locally recruit and train a team to operate the facility, recognizing that people are the ultimate drivers of long-term success,” said Swarttouw.
The facility is on track to be operational by spring 2025.
