EV trucks cut CO2 at NL site

EV trucks cut CO2 at NL site

Breda, the Netherlands 2 April 2024 – At NewCold, we strive to create sustainable value chains. As a fast-growing global leader in advanced food logistics, we utilize our proprietary technology to increase efficiency and cut emissions – and this extends to how we build our state-of-the-art facilities.

Since mid-March, our construction partners KS Systems and KS Project Logistics have been using an electric truck rather than a diesel-powered vehicle to deliver roll-formed steel profiles to NewCold’s Dinteloord development.

“We are always searching for innovative ways to cut or abate emissions. So, we’re excited to have partners like KS Systems and KS Project Logistics who share our values and commitment to sustainability,” said Hans Otto, NewCold’s Chief Project Officer.

The thrice daily deliveries using an electric truck will result in a saving of 3,200kg of CO2 emissions. Which equates to the annual CO2 emissions of the average household. Put another way, an internal combustion engine car would travel 16,740 miles/26,940 kilometers a year to emit 3,200kg CO2.

Rolf Exalto, Managing Director of KS Systems, is delighted: “We thank NewCold for the opportunity to take a different approach to the logistics for their project. They were open to new ideas and took time to explore alternatives using electric vehicles (EVs). It is inspiring to see what you can achieve together when you share a commitment to sustainability. The unique combination of distance between production site to construction site and effective logistics planning makes it possible to transport three tuck loads per day using an EV truck.”

KS Project Logistics is instrumental in ensuring the seamless transportation of goods within this groundbreaking collaboration, says Rik van Keeken, Managing Director of KS Project Logistics. Specializing in efficient and environmentally responsible transportation solutions, KS Project Logistics plays a vital role in minimizing the carbon footprint by optimizing logistical processes and leveraging electric vehicles. KS Project Logistics enables the transportation of goods with maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

NewCold’s Dinteloord facility will be one of the most advanced temperature-controlled warehouses in the world.
