pressMarch 16, 2021

NewCold is proud sponsor of the Dutch Sliding Federation. You might wonder which sliding disciplines are under this collaboration? Below you’ll find a breakdown of all the sliding disciplines. Enjoy!

Skeleton

Skeleton is a winter sliding sport in which a person rides a small sled, known as a skeleton bobsled (or -sleigh), down a frozen track while lying face down and head-first . The sport and the sled may have been named from the bony appearance of the sled.

Bobsleigh

Bobsledding, also called bobsleighing, the sport of sliding down an ice-covered natural or artificial incline on a four-runner sled, called a bobsled, bobsleigh, or bob, that carries either two or four persons. 1 Pilot in both disciplines who drives the sled down the track. The other athletes in the sled are known as breakman/pusher who are responsible for the first acceleration during a slide.

Monobob

As the name suggests, there is one athlete per bobsled, and it’s all on them to run, push, steer and brake their way down the winding ice track. This modern twist on a classic sport first appeared at the Winter Youth Olympics at Lillehammer 2016.

Luge

A luge is a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleds supine and feet-first. A luger steers by using the calf muscles to flex the sled’s runners or by exerting opposite shoulder pressure to the seat.

Further explained

The difference between all the other named sports and luge is that they have different federations. Skeleton and Bobsleigh being part of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation(IBSF). Luge on the other hand is under the International Luge Federation (FIL). We will keep you informed about all the must-know facts and stories of all the athletes and their developments.

Dutch bobsleigh and skeleton team participated in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. The skeleton athlete Kimberley Bos of Team NewCold won a bronze medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics!
