Sustainability in motion: electric transport gains traction in India

PressMarch 19, 2026

NewCold’s sustainability initiatives are increasingly gaining recognition across global markets, including India, where demand for low emission logistics solutions is accelerating.

Recently, we successfully completed an electric refrigerated truck trial in India for a leading FMCG customer. The electric vehicle demonstrated strong operational performance, maintaining temperature integrity and reliability throughout the route. This trial confirms that sustainable refrigerated transport is not a future concept, but a solution that is already viable today.

The outcome reflects a broader shift in the market. Customers are not only exploring sustainable alternatives, but are actively seeking to integrate them into long term logistics strategies, particularly in urban distribution environments.

From ambition to implementation

“In a recent visit together with the NewCold India management team to key FMCG customers, a consistent theme emerged. There is a clear and growing demand for sustainable transport solutions, especially for inner city distribution and long term contract models,” says Patrick Gillesen, Global Director Transport Strategy at NewCold.

“Customers are increasingly willing to invest in cleaner alternatives, provided they meet operational and reliability standards. What we see in India is not future thinking, but a practical transition that is already underway.

At NewCold, our drive for sustainability is not based on vision alone. It is a concrete building block required to ensure sustainable logistics in densely populated urban areas. Together with our customers, we are actively developing and implementing these solutions to make them scalable and economically viable.”

Vikash Kumar, Head of Transport India at NewCold, adds:
“In India, we see strong momentum from customers who are ready to take concrete steps towards more sustainable supply chains. Urban distribution in particular requires immediate action, and solutions such as electric refrigerated transport are becoming increasingly relevant.

At the same time, we are working closely with our customers and industry partners to accelerate the use of green energy sources, including solar, wind and other renewable energy solutions. This integrated approach is essential to truly decarbonise the cold chain and build future proof logistics networks.”

Partnerships driving progress

At NewCold, collaboration with customers is essential to validating new technologies. We test solutions against real operational requirements, evaluate performance jointly, and define clear pathways for scaling.

Our ambition remains unchanged: to create sustainable value chains. Sustainability at NewCold drives innovation, enabling us to reduce emissions while improving efficiency, loading performance, and cost effectiveness across supply chains.
We do not simply set ambitions. We deliver on them.

Our mission is clear: achieving net zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2035, and Scope 3 by 2040. Every step we take today contributes directly to that goal.
